Greg Raymer

Greg Raymer has got himself the nick name of Fossil man and know one knows why. He was born and raised in his hometown Raleigh in North Carolina in the year 1964. Some say that he has got this nick name because of the opaque sunglasses that he insists on wearing whilst playing the game. Another reason why people give for the nickname "Fossilman" is because of his hobby of collecting fossils.

He has got quite a few achievements to his name which includes one Bracelet and 14 Money finishes.

He is one professional poker player who is widely known for his win in the 2004 World Series of Poker main event.

Greg Raymer had a varied childhood as his family moved several times during his childhood, from his birthplace to Lansing, where he lived until age 10. They then moved to Clearwater, Florida, and that was where he went to Dunedin Middle School, and then they moved to to St. Louis, Missouri.

After High School, Greg "Fossil Man" Raymer enrolled at the University of Missouri-Rolla, where he majored in chemistry and became a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in the year 1989, and then again from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1992.

Surprisingly, he then practiced law as a patent attorney for more than a decade. Out of these ten years he worked for the pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

The very first game that Raymer participated was to first finish in the money of a World Series of Poker event in the year 2001 in the $1,500 Omaha hi-lo split 8 or better event won by Chris Ferguson.

Then, at the 2004 World Series, Raymer defeated David Williams and this brought him the wins of $5,000,000 which was the first prize in the event of $10,000 no limit Texas hold 'em WSOP main event.

The next year, Raymer finished 25th out of more than 5,619 entrants in the 2005 WSOP Main Event. This was quite an achievement and earned him $304,680.

This led to people sitting up and taking notice of him as an ace professional poker player. These two performances were remarkably impressive.

His closest competitor was Dan Harrington. Both players had plenty of similarities to them in the game of poker.

In 2005 Greg Raymer also entered the inaugural British Poker Open which was filmed in London and was the UK's biggest live poker event in history. In this event Greg was the favorite poker player and he was ultimately able to make it to the final table and come third. This is when he was able to get a win of £20,000 for himself.

In the year 2007, Raymer won his first World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) bracelet by winning Event #6 of the 2007 WCOOP. This earned him $168,362.

As of the year 2010, his total live tournament winnings exceed $6,850,000. Most of his winnings of $6,487,512 have come from his wions in the money at WSOP tournament events.
