Annie Duke

Annie Duke has got the nicknames such as Annie Legend, The Duke, and the Duchess of Poker She lives in Los Angeles in California and was born in the year 1965. She is a professional poker player and has even authored books on it. She has won a bracelet in the 2004 World Series of Poker $2,000 Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better Event. She was also declared a winner of the 2004 World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions. This was where she earned the Winner-Take-All prize which was as much as $2,000,000.

In the year 2010, she won the National Heads-Up Poker Championship. This went on to fetch her a cash prize of $500,000 and also the most popular of titles.

Duke was named Anne LaBarr Lederer and was born in Concord, New Hampshire.

Her father Richard Lederer, was a famed writer and linguist and taught at St. Paul's School. Her brother, Howard Lederer, is also a famous and popular professional poker player. Her sister, Katy Lederer, is an author and poet. Annie Duke has four children.

According to The Annie Duke Fan Site, Annie went to Columbia University and double-majored in English and psychology. She was just about to complete her PHD when she decided to quit school.

She married Ben Duke who was a close friend from the same university, and moved to Columbus, Montana. It was at this time that she got interested in poker and learned the ropes with the help of her brother. She first began playing poker in nearby Billings, in Montana.

As Annie Duke became more and more interested in the game of poker her academic work took a back seat. She was greatly supported and encouraged by her brother who himself was a poker player. He not only went on to coach her in the nuances of the game but also gave her the money to start playing poker.

In the year 2004, Duke was highly recognized for her achievement of being able to coach actor Ben Affleck, who was able to win the 2004 California State Poker Championship.

She was also able to get the 10th place finish in the 2000 World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event. This was the event in which she was only one position short of the final table. This game she played when she was eight months pregnant with her third child.

In the 2004 World Series of Poker, she was able to race ahead of her brother. She finished first whilst he stood third. At the same World Series, she won her first gold bracelet which was in an Omaha Hi-Lo tournament. She was one of three women who went on to win an open event in that year's WSOP. The other two women were Kathy Liebert and Cyndy Violette.

In the year 2006, Duke won the second annual World Series of Rock Paper Scissors.

The WSORPS is an annual charity tournament hosted by Phil Gordon at the World Series of Poker. The proceeds from this are donated to cancer charities.
